RAMC Variable Area Flow Meter

At first glance, the instrument looks impressive with its all stainless steel design. A closer look reveals a “float blockage” detection system. Operational safety is of the utmost importance in any flowmeter, and the RAMC is no exception – wetted parts are available in a variety of materials, and intrinsically safe outputs are available as an option. If you value flexibility in a flowmeter – from the measurement of air to highly aggressive liquids – in situ replacement of the indicator without loss of performance – and the interchangeability of floats – then the RAMC is the right choice for you.

The RAMC combines all the advantages of the variable area principle with robust design, reliable measurement, with or without power, HART, culminating in a truly universal flowmeter for gases, liquids and steam applications.

Measurement Principle

Variable-area flow meter: a float rises in a conical tube; its height corresponds to flow.

Float position is magnetically transmitted to an indicator (mechanical pointer) or electronic transmitter.

Designed for bottom-up vertical flow.

Fluid Types & Applications

Suitable for gases, liquids, and steam.

Clean fluids (low contamination) are preferred for its float design.

Can be used in demanding / harsh environments (corrosive media) — materials options.

Materials & Construction

Wetted parts standard: stainless steel.

Optional wetted materials: titanium, Hastelloy, Monel, PTFE-coated, etc.

Indicator housing: stainless steel or aluminum.

Flow Indication & Safety

Float blockage detection: can detect if float is stuck / blocked, triggering alarm via electronic transmitter.

Limit switches: supports standard or fail-safe inductive limit switches.

Can be used in safety (SIS) systems: diagnostic / proof-test provisions

Measurement Range

Wide measuring range: e.g., for water at 20 : approx. 2.5 L/h to 130 000 L/h.

For air (20 °C, 1 bar): from ~75 L/h to ~1,400,000 L/h.

Viscosity compensation: there is a “viscosity-independent” range; for higher viscosities, friction on the float affects its position.

Process Connections & Sizes

DN 15 to DN 150 (½″ to 6″) for flanged versions.

Connections: flanged, threaded (NPT), etc.

Output Options / Transmitters

Mechanical pointer (no power) version available.

Electronic transmitter version (2- or 4-wire) with analog (4-20 mA) + HART (HART 5 / HART 7) protocol.

Option for SIL / safety-rated limit switches
