The flowmeters are indispensable where high pressure and / or high temperature operating conditions exist. The stainless steel primaries as well as the PTFE liner primaries are proven in many applications even under hardest conditions.
Primary instrument designs
- Type FAM541: Standard-line with flange connections
- Type FAM544: Hygienic design
- Type FAM545: With PTFE-liner for aggressive fluids (in Classic phase, please contact ABB for information about product availablity)
Easily adjustable for new operating conditions
Magnetic stick operation
- Configurations also possible with closed housing
All devices are available as analog indicator with or without alarms as well as electronic transmitter with 4 to 20 mA, HART communication and NAMUR contact outputs and optionally with a graphical display. They can be used in all hazardous areas.

Features
- Suitable for measuring liquids, steam and gases — especially for aggressive or opaque fluids.
- Construction: metal‑cone / variable‑area (float in cone) design (i.e., not glass tube) for high‑temperature / high‑pressure or demanding fluids.
- Connection sizes: flange connections from DN 15 (½″) up to DN 80 (3″) in standard versions.
- Flow range examples: for water at 20 °C: roughly 0.028 m³/h up to ~120 m³/h (≈ 28 l/h up to 120 000 l/h) depending on size.
- Turndown / rangeability: typically 10 : 1.
- Operating pressure: up to 100 bar (or higher depending on size/variant).
- Medium temperature: up to 400 °C (752 °F) in standard version.
- Accuracy: class 1.6 (i.e., ±1.6% of full‑scale) for standard design per VDE/VDI 3513. Optionally class 1.0 in specific configs.
- Materials: wetted parts in stainless steel (e.g., 316L / 316Ti) in many versions; options for PTFE‑lined variants for aggressive media.
- Indicator / transmitter options: mechanical analogue indicator, or electronic output (4‑20 mA) with HART communications, and optional alarms.
- Mounting: vertical installation recommended, flow bottom to top
