Metal cone variable area flowmeter A Master FAM540

The VA Master FAM540 flowmeter can be utilized for measuring the flow of liquids, steam and gases, especially when aggressive or opaque fluids are to be metered. It is ideal for the chemical, pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.

The flowmeters are indispensable where high pressure and / or high temperature operating conditions exist. The stainless steel primaries as well as the PTFE liner primaries are proven in many applications even under hardest conditions.

Primary instrument designs

  • Type FAM541: Standard-line with flange connections
  • Type FAM544: Hygienic design
  • Type FAM545: With PTFE-liner for aggressive fluids (in Classic phase, please contact ABB for information about product availablity)

Easily adjustable for new operating conditions

Magnetic stick operation

  • Configurations also possible with closed housing

All devices are available as analog indicator with or without alarms as well as electronic transmitter with 4 to 20 mA, HART communication and NAMUR contact outputs and optionally with a graphical display. They can be used in all hazardous areas.

Features

  • Suitable for measuring liquids, steam and gases — especially for aggressive or opaque fluids.
  • Construction: metalcone / variablearea (float in cone) design (i.e., not glass tube) for hightemperature / highpressure or demanding fluids.
  • Connection sizes: flange connections from DN 15 (½″) up to DN 80 (3″) in standard versions.
  • Flow range examples: for water at 20 °C: roughly 0.028 m³/h up to ~120 m³/h ( 28 l/h up to 120 000 l/h) depending on size.
  • Turndown / rangeability: typically 10 : 1.
  • Operating pressure: up to 100 bar (or higher depending on size/variant).
  • Medium temperature: up to 400 °C (752 °F) in standard version.
  • Accuracy: class 1.6 (i.e., ±1.6% of fullscale) for standard design per VDE/VDI 3513. Optionally class 1.0 in specific configs.
  • Materials: wetted parts in stainless steel (e.g., 316L / 316Ti) in many versions; options for PTFElined variants for aggressive media.
  • Indicator / transmitter options: mechanical analogue indicator, or electronic output (420 mA) with HART communications, and optional alarms.
  • Mounting: vertical installation recommended, flow bottom to top
